New Reviews!

Hi all,

Well, after the excitement of launch week I’m back to the lonesome world of sitting in front of my PC and writing stories. Actually I’m finding the return a comforting rather than deflating experience – here is where I’m happiest.

Two further reviews have come in over the past few days. The first comes from Fantasy Book Critic (“http://fantasybookcritic.blogspot.com/2008/07/through-glass-darkly-by-bill-husseyaa.html”). I have been given permission by the critic to reproduce a few snippets:

‘…as far as tone, style, and subject matter, “Through a Glass, Darkly” is highly reminiscent of [the 80s’], movies and books that made me fall in love with the genre.’

‘There are several mysteries in the novel including a nice surprise twist at the end.’

‘Mendicant is an emotional sadist whose evilness is not just terrifying, but on a level that automatically places him among the genre’s most memorable creations…’

‘What I loved most about “Through a Glass, Darkly” though, was its depth… every person, place and thing in the book has a story, and learning the history of each is one of the novel’s greatest joys’

‘“Through a Glass, Darkly” is dark, disturbingly imaginative, skillfully written, features unforgettable characters, and relates a tale that is frightening, intense, and hauntingly tragic. In short, I can’t imagine reading a better horror debut in 2008. Not only that, but “Through a Glass, Darkly” is easily one of the best horror novels that I’ve read in the past few years, and if the genre keeps producing exciting new talent like Bill Hussey, then horror fiction is in excellent hands…’

I’m just awaiting permission to use snippets from the second review but it can be read in its entirety at

I’ll be posting reflections on launch week soon…

Until then adios

'One of the Great New Voices in Horror Fiction'

Influential horror website Fatally Yours (www.fatally-yours.com) has posted another brilliant review for ‘Through A Glass, Darkly’. Here are some snippets – the full review can be accessed at www.fatally-yours.com/horror-literature/book-review-through-a-glass-darkly-by-bill-hussey:

‘A new master of horror reveals himself with Through A Glass, Darkly as author Bill Hussey weaves a complex, darkly atmospheric story to give you chills on even the hottest summer day.’

‘With Through A Glass, Darkly, Bill Hussey has created an intensely engaging and deeply disturbing book. It is so well-written that it’s hard to believe this is Hussey’s first novel. The words just seem to roll off the page pulling you deeper and deeper into the story, while the imagery is wickedly painted and the characters are all highly developed.’

‘The evil Doctor Mendicant is also one of the most frightening horror villains I’ve read of late…his raggedy “Crowman” appearances as well as his later transformations are downright unsettling!’

‘Through A Glass, Darkly is a richly dark novel that proves that author Bill Hussey is one of the great new voices in horror fiction. Remember his name because I’m sure you’ll be hearing it a lot after this breakout book.’

Many thanks to the reviewer at Fatally Yours for this superb review.
